This is my friend Supritha. We met in September 1996 on our first day at big school. Desks were allocated alphabetically. Her surname is Rao and mine is Phipps, so we were placed next to each other. Sup was was feisty and full of confidence, I was petrified of everyone and quiet as a mouse. Strangely we became good friends. Sup and I sat next to each other in every class for the next two years, and regardless of changing friendship groups and tempestuous hormones (all very commonplace at an all girls school!) we always remained friends.
Back in October, I asked Sup to be my guinea pig as I practised focusing my Contax 645 manually. She agreed and we headed to Manchester’s Northern Quarter to shoot some film. I think she secretly enjoyed it…
…and then we went for much deserved tea and enormous portions of cake!!
