I was photographing Mark & Emily’s beautiful wedding a few weeks ago, when I got chatting to one of their guests. He told me without doubt or hesitation that they were the coolest people he knew. I don’t think he meant they were cool in a “so hipster it hurts” kind of way. Emily is an exceedingly talented printed textile designer and Mark is a graphic designer who paints in his spare time. They live in Dalston, share a studio in Stoke Newington and are planning a huge renovation of a derelict silk factory in the northwest. So yes, on paper they are very cool people. But it’s much more than that.
Mark & Emily are warm, generous people and you don’t have to spend long with them to figure that out. Being in their company is effortless. They ooze positivity and enthusiasm, and are ready to have fun at the drop of a hat! Whilst they’re obviously working hard to forge their own path together, they make time to encourage others in theirs.
When I emailed Emily and told her I wanted to photograph an entire shoot on film and asked whether she and Mark would be my guinea pigs, she didn’t hesitate. So here it is…
Thanks for having faith in me guys and for trusting me with your memories.
