Last Autumn I had the pleasure of working with this lovely family. Concentrating mainly on weddings, I don’t photograph as many families as I’d like. When I do they’re most often families with small children which is wonderful, but I also love the idea of capturing a family at a totally different stage.
The Rimmer girls are all at the beginning of their adult life; flying the nest, working hard to start their own careers and forge their own paths. I think this is quite a special time for a family. As time passes and children grow up, the line between parent and child blurs. Children learn to know their parents as friends, rather than guardians. The family becomes a team. They may not see each other every day, but they know they can count upon each other.
In years to come, they’ll no doubt be new people welcomed into the family and the dynamic will change again. But for now, it’s just these five and their adorable black lab. It was very clear to me when I was warmly welcomed into the Rimmer home that this was a pretty good team…
