I’ve had the pleasure of photographing many extraordinary mothers over the past few years and I just wanted to spare a thought for them all today, on Mothering Sunday.
I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to photograph women at various stages of their motherhood; excitedly awaiting the birth of their first child, cradling their new baby to sleep in their arms, watching in fascination as their children explore and learn about the world around them and years later proudly looking on as their sons & daughters marry and begin their own lives together with somebody new. It’s an amazing privilege to be invited into people’s lives to capture glimpses of this wonderful journey on camera.
I consider myself exceedingly fortunate to have been brought up by an incredibly loving, generous and strong lady and I hope that one day I’ll be half as good a mother to my children as she has been to me. I stumbled across this quotation which I think sums her up pretty perfectly…
A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.
