It was a cold, frosty morning and the sky was white.  I met Laura and Dave near Bickerton and the four of us (including their gorgeous dog Jess!) went for a walk up the hills.  Visibility wasn’t brilliant but what we could see was beautiful.  Every branch on every tree was laden with a thick layer of ice and as the wind rustled through the frozen branches it was as though the woods were making music.  We’d never known anything like it.

Against my will, I’ve also become a list-maker and today I made a list of ideas to keep me on my toes in 2012.  Then it occurred to me, if I share it with you then you can hold me to it…

Dream big.  Life is full of opportunity, so keep an open mind and say yes.  Don’t be complacent.  Work hard and fight everyday to achieve your goals.

James Joyce once said, “A man’s errors are his portals to discovery”.  Try new things.  Experiment. You’re only human and sometimes you’ll mess up; it’s inevitable.  So make mistakes, but don’t make them twice.  Learn and improve.

Read and take inspiration from great literature.  You like reading, make time for it!

Continue to seek beauty in the mundane.  Don’t tell people you see beauty all around you, show them! You are good, but you can always be better.  Take any doubt you have and transform it into effort. Push yourself.  Photograph everyday and be persistent in your quest for beauty.

Explore with your camera.  Visit churches, parks, markets, derelict buildings, beaches and everywhere else.  Interpret what you find to be the essence of places and events in pictures.  Share your adventures.  Seek to depict what’s good and important in life; love, laughter and warmth.  Tell stories.

Deliver beautiful products of the highest quality to your clients.  There is no room for compromise.

Be true to yourself.  If you believe in film over digital, in prints over jpegs and in albums over discs then make those things your priority.  Have conviction.

I wonder if there is a more beautiful city in the world?

In September last year I was invited down to West Sussex for the Goodwood Revival.  I had never been before and as soon as we arrived I took one look around and couldn’t believe this fantastic event had never caught my attention before.  It couldn’t have been more up my street!

Usually when encouraged to make the effort and dress up in era clothes for a nostalgic event, you’d be forgiven for quietly wondering “mmm, if I rock up with tea stained legs and a dead fox lopped over my shoulder, will I look like a prize idiot when inevitably confronted with scores of people in jeans and t-shirts?!”  …but this event is different.  The golden era of motor car racing is celebrated everywhere you turn and whether dressed up as a glamorous twenties flapper, a dashing WWII RAF pilot or a sixties mod, everyone looks fabulous!

If you enjoy indulging in a bit of nostalgia every once in a while, you must go to Goodwood.  It’s superbly organised with great care and attention to detail.  You’ll have a blast!

I thought it only right to record the event on film, so packed my Contax and half a dozen rolls of kodak and left the DSLR behind.  So glad I did…

Two years on and with far more experience under my belt, I had definitely outgrown my dreamweaver website and knew it was time for a fresh start…

My website and blog are now integrated into one, so you can find everything you need all under one roof!  I’ve also introduced a new client gallery/store front where you can order prints and view my latest work.

I wanted a clean and simple space to showcase my pictures, so I’m very happy with my new home and I hope you’ll come back and visit again soon x
