This is a subject very close to my heart. When I’m not being Victoria of Victoria Phipps Photography, I’m being Victoria – secretary of the veterans’ charity, D-Day Revisited. For five years now I’ve been helping to arrange pilgrimages for Normandy Veterans who want to commemorate the anniversaries of D-Day, which took place on the northern coast of France on 6th June 1944. I know I speak for everyone involved in this annual effort when I say that to spend this small snippet of time in the company of these veterans, on the soil where they fought to liberate Europe almost 70 years ago, is an honour. It’s a privilege.
I’m so thankful to these gentlemen (and ladies!) for sharing some of their experiences with me over the years. Some of them volunteered keenly, some of them were conscripted reluctantly, but they each did their bit and they each have a story to tell. They are part of a very special generation and spending this short time with them has undoubtedly enriched my life.
